You may be asking yourself what’s more important to my business than sales? The short answer to that is WHY you get the sales in the first place.
Why do you get out of bed every morning to go to work?
The most common response is of course money. But money is a result of your work.
So what is your WHY and how is this related to inspired marketing?
If you’re stuck and can’t figure out your why think back to when you got started in your field; what drove you? Was it to be the best? Was it to improve people’s lives? What was your cause or your belief?
Try and feel the deep burning passion you had back then – that is your WHY.
Understanding why you do what you do is the corner stone to how you should operate your business, from hiring to providing your product/service to how you engage your marketplace – “inspired marketing.”
When you are clear on why you are in business the passion and drive you have inside becomes infectious and it spreads throughout your employees, clients and even your future clients.
This quote from Simon Sinek will help to further clarify…
“There is a big difference between repeat business and loyalty. Repeat business is when people do business with you multiple times. Loyalty is when people are willing to turn down a better product or a better price to continue doing business with you.”
Inherently, if your market responds to you in that manner your employees will respond even stronger because you make them feel like they are apart of something bigger than themselves. In other words, they don’t go to work for the paycheck, they go to work because they are fulfilled.
The concept of inspired marketing is rooted in your WHY.
Why should people do business with you?
There are numerous other places that have the same product/service you have at very competitive price points.
Why should talented people work at your company?
There are numerous other places they can go work and perform the same tasks for a very competitive wage.
The answer to those questions is simple; they buy YOU and not what you do.
This is exactly why Apple is the behemoth it is, they focus on why they are in business, “to challenge the status quo” and people respond to them like no other company.
When you achieve this level of clarity you begin to hear things like, “I just had a gut feeling” or “I would never go anywhere else.”
Creating a loyal client base is like having the keys to the kingdom. You no longer stress about prices, getting new business or hoping the latest promotion works.
You are free from the market manipulation your competitors are forced to use because they focus on their WHAT, their product/service, and not WHY they are in business.
Remember people respond to people much more powerfully than they do a product or service. A product or service is just a symbol of a person’s lifestyle. It’s just a thing. It’s not a cause or a belief.
Of course you actually have to be good at what you do, that is definitely a piece of the puzzle. I don’t want to make it sound like its not. But it’s only a piece and it’s not the biggest piece.
